NEW YORK CITY PRESS

Press Release
Alejandro Balbontin paints a rich, atmospheric canvas. His palette is vivid in color, and his line work is organic in variation, yet a distinct sense of depth is present, revealed throughout warm light and shadow. Balbontin's body of work possesses an distinctly urban feel. It is diverse, ranging from expressionistic portraiture, to abstracted geometrics and landscapes, and depictions of lively social celebrations and interactions. Always figurative and imparting his fluid vision, Balbontin's full forms guide his viewer's eye around the canvas with ease. Born in Chile, Alejandro Balbontin studied architecture at the University of Chile before pursuing his passion for painting, going on to study in countries such as Ecuador and Spain. Balbontin has exhibited his work in South America, and the essences of his localities are glimpsed through metropolitan scenes, and presented in dramatic color, energizing his canvas in a dance of contrasting hues.
